A Fragment.

A gutted medical system. Countless labour strikes lost. Right-wing conspiracy theorists. While Canada doesn't even have a national standardized view of the numbers, let alone a national response, the difficulty in understanding the magnitude of the problem persists.

Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York, despite all his shortcomings, seems to be connecting with his inner socialist - a positive development. A possible rebirth is at play here. As we continue to traverse through more and more advanced stages of capitalism, it is clear that only a complete re-organization of society can save us. Technical efficiency, community-based approaches and local solutions to harm reduction must be prioritized, market theory eviscerated.

Once we hopefully get through this alive - acnknowledging there will be a lot of pain - we'll have to confront the possibility of nuclear war and all the negative repercussions of climate change including a billion refugees birthed from the countless wars and economic inequality. The refugees are a convenient workforce for the business class; we've seen this movie before from dustbowl movements as told by American author John Steinbeck to mass migration; the need to drive down labour costs in an obsession.

New York is burning, so is capitalism but so is the global healthcare system. Today was also the day, in an unprecedented act of piracy, that the United States hijacked an order of 200,000 N95 masks in Thailand on their way to Germany and re-directed them to the United States. More daylight.
